I’ve known for quite some time WordPress is eighty-gajllion times better than blogger, I just haven’t gotten around to setting everything up for it to happen here on humble ol’ Mountainous Words. I went through the effort to build the rest of the site out in Drupal, which is admittedly the superior CMS provided you have the time to understand it all– but man, WordPress is easy-peasy for the blog set. So here it is, for now and … well maybe forever, we shall see. But at least for the immediate future.
Fear not, the old blog will still live on in pog form. Wait, no in archive form. The archives are going to be up here though there’s bound to be some busted links and bad images. Problem is the old blogger blog bounced around on three servers, and heck from 2000-2004, I had another blogger page that I seldom updated. But the words are there and most of the archives are in place, especially the ones with pictures of silly cats. It’s fun to look back at the Red Sox amazing 2004 playoff run, the 2005 summit of Rainier with Sheila, the 2006 summer of writing my book, the 2007 publishing of my book and 2008′s mountain bike madness. This year has been ok too, with it’s tough downs but some nice ups.
Also with the new scenery comes a new theme– more writing! I’ve decided to be a bit more personal with the new blog and perhaps more interesting. As a professional writer, I know it’s important to keep up the practice and lately the bulk of my writing has been SEO for polar bears, for example “NHA’s polar bear tours will knock your socks off and leave your frozen toes in a state of blissful blistering frostbite”.
Also keep an eye on the main site for actual new trip reports and photo galleries. I think I’m going to switch over to Flash Ease for my photo galleries, but for now Flickr is the thing. Overall, it should be fun and along the way I have a ton of adventures to add to the site. I might even migrate some of the better stories here to the blog. Still a lot to do though…
Anyhow, I hope you all find the new blog more readable, easy to access and overall a better experience than before. Please feel free to leave comments as always and enjoy!!
