My earholes are still ringing from yesterday’s ill-advised mountain bike ride out onto the flat (!) and extremely non-technical trails that connect Wonderland Lake to the Boulder Res. Since I can jump on them from my front door, I figured it would be fun to see how long I could sprint down to the res and back for those days when I don’t have enough time to ride to better trails but still need a bike fix. I didn’t figure on the wind blowing so hard it threatened sheer the skin from my very bones.<\/p>\n

OK, maybe it wasn’t THAT bad but it was enough to push me over a few times and make downhills feel like uphills and uphills feel like peddling underwater. In an hour I was able to cover about 7.5 miles of flat dirt roads and because the wind was blowing hard from the north and I was going east-west, it was never at my back. Still, it was better than not biking at all, my throbbing ear canals notwithstanding.<\/p>\n

After getting home, I had one of those hot showers that you can’t actually feel because the nerve endings in\u00a0your\u00a0skin\u00a0are still clenched from the cold. I spent the rest of the night trying to line up some new writing projects and getting ready for the last few weeks of (on-resort) snowboarding fun. It’s going to be a busy next two weeks, hopefully some of that busy-ness is getting the website more functional and getting my hearing back.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
