Over the years, I’ve developed a fondness for lesser-known mountains in Colorado. As fun as the marquee peaks are, there’s something to be said for the solitude of less trodden wilderness. As a side project for my book Best Summit Hikes in Colorado I’ve started collecting trip reports from my favorites and putting them online. I’ll be adding new peaks on a regular basis so check back from time to time!
Denver/Boulder Secret Summits
Getting to the mountains can be a big commitment. Sometimes you just want a great mountain hike without the drudgery of a long drive. Lucky for us, there’s a wealth of great mountains within a 2 hour drive of the Denver/Boulder/Golden metro area. The first installment of the secret summit series looks at some of the best areas on the east side of the Eisenhower/Johnson Tunnel along I-70. Explore over a dozen peaks – including some new looks at a 14er classics – from our three starting points: Watrous Gulch, Argentine Pass and Berthoud Pass.
