El Move-O Sucko
Tuesday, May 06, 2008
Today at Natural Habitat Adventures we got the news we're moving into the new uber-complex in Louisville, Colorado owned by our parent company, Gaiam. It sucks for most of my co-workers and semi-sucks for me. Our current offices in Boulder are great; not very formal, huge windows with blue-sky views everywhere, dog-friendly and we even have an in house N64. No dress code of course. And it's a 10 minute walk from my house. Now I have a 20 minute drive into a badge-based, corporate cubicle world where we have to be around a bunch of enlightened yuppie yoga freaks all day (ok, maybe I'm stereotyping - some of them are pilates freaks). It all reminds of the Simpsons episode where Homer has the perfect life working in the bowling alley until Marge gets pregnant again.

That night, before bed, Marge decides to tell Homer.

Marge: Homey, I --
Homer: Can't talk, praying. Dear Lord, the gods have been good to me
and I am thankful. For the first time in my life, everything is
absolutely perfect just the way it is.
Marge: Mmm.
Homer: So here's the deal: you freeze everything as it is, and I won't
ask for anything more. If that is OK, please give me absolutely
no sign. [brief pause] OK, deal.
In gratitude, I present you this offering of cookies and milk.
If you want me to eat them for you, please give me no sign.
[brief pause] Thy will be done! [mows down]
-- Homer's solution to the Lord's unresponsiveness, "And Maggie Makes
Three"

Anyhow, the good-ish news is that I will probably be working from home a few days a week. Good for Xanadu too. But I really will miss these cool, open offices where I look at the blue sky and flatiron rock formations everyday. I like walking to work in the AM to get my blood flowing. But ah well, that's the way the corporate world goes.
