Snow Equity

Last Updated on November 2, 2010 by James Dziezynski

It was nary but a few weeks ago that my friends and I climbed Tabeguache Peak thanks to the warmest Colorado autumn in recent history. The seasons have begrudgingly begun to turnover and snow is piling up in the high country.

Fremont and I get in some good snow rasslin' on the slopes above Herman Lake and Herman Gulch.

This means it’s time to dust off the snowshoes, wax the snowboard and get ready for the fun winter months! A new theme this year is to try and get out year-round, on both the mountain bike and running. I wish Boulder held snow throughout the winter but the fact is, most of our winter is mid-40s sort of frozen, sort of sunny. We’ll see.

Oh, in other news, I encourage all of you to befriend the Snowmass Mammoth on Facebook. For being 10,000 years old, he’s done well to embrace modern social media. He’s even voted and gone trick-or-treating dressed up as a wooly mammoth (see, he’s a columbian mammoth, big difference). I’m generally pro-Snowmass on a lot of things, so old Snowy is just another reason to like the place. In fact, I’m going to visit him in Denver soon, where his bones are being archived!
